YOU CAN MAKE THE DIFFERENCE! In 1938, the Wagner-O'Day Act was passed under Franklin D. Roosevelt in order to provide employment opportunities for people who are blind. In 1971, under the leadership of Senator Jacob Javits, Congress amended this act to include people with severe disabilities.
For over 60 years, this program has yielded employment for over 36,000 Americans with disabilities through Government purchases of quality products and services provided by nonprofit agencies employing such individuals throughout the country. The Austin Lighthouse is one such agency.
By purchasing these products and services, Government agencies have realized the true value of the JWOD Program and have stood by as its greatest suppporters decade after decade. Although the Program has been faced with many challenges over the years, it always seems to overcome them and grow stronger than before. Only a worthwhile, respected program could have such success!
